Common Questions

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

SRT (SubRip) is the universal subtitle format that works everywhere. VTT (WebVTT) is the modern web standard for HTML5 video players. Both contain the same information—timing and text—but use slightly different formatting. This tool handles both and converts between them.

How do I fix out-of-sync subtitles?

If all subtitles are offset by a constant amount, adjust the first entry's start time, then edit subsequent entries accordingly. For more complex timing issues, use the video preview feature to seek to each subtitle and adjust its timing individually.

Can I edit auto-generated YouTube subtitles?

Yes! Download your auto-generated captions from YouTube Studio as SRT or VTT, upload them here, fix errors and timing, then re-upload the edited file to YouTube. This is much faster than editing in YouTube's built-in editor.

How do I add a new subtitle entry?

Click "Add Entry" at the top of the editor. A new subtitle will be added with default timing (1 second after the previous entry). Edit the start time, end time, and text to match your needs.

Can I preview subtitles with my video?

Yes, click the video upload section to add your video file. The video player will appear, and you can click the play buttons next to each subtitle entry to seek to that timestamp and verify synchronization.

Is there a limit on subtitle file size?

Subtitle files are limited to 5MB. This allows for thousands of entries—far more than typical videos need. Large subtitle files load and edit instantly.
